TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - As the countdown to 2013 approaches, there is no shortage of events taking place around town. In downtown Tucson, Hotel Congress is doing last minute preparations for its Studio 54 New Years Eve bash.

A thousand people are expected to attend this party, which will host a band, dj's and a costume contest. Not to mention, this massive disco ball that will sit right above the outside stage.

And massive it is, at 12-feet in diameter, this disco ball is the largest in North America.

If you're not in the mood for a disco-themed party, there are other options. The Marriott Starr Pass Resort is having a jazz gala at 7:00 p.m. Tickets cost around $200.

If you need a laugh, the Laffs Comedy Caffe is offering a champagne dinner for $25. If you want to brave the cold, head over to Playground, for a tribute band.

You can also join a video dance party at the Rialto Theatre or you can avoid the crowds, and rent a movie.

"[Its] usually crazy before holidays, people want to see their families, so they rent movies instead," said Christopher Fuller, an employee at Casa Video.

There are many, like Barbara Russek, who plans to do just that.

"Considering the weather, and considering the prices of a lot of events, watching some movies that are oldies but goodies, is a great idea," says Russek.
