TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Deputies have reopened one lane of traffic near milepost 20 on Mt. Lemmon after shutting down both north and southbound lanes earlier Sunday morning.

A single vehicle accident occurred on General Hitchcock Highway, the road to Mt. Lemmon, just before 9:00 a.m. Sunday, according to Monica Torralba with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

Torralba tells KGUN9 that the vehicle drove into a guard rail, flipped and rolled and landed upright.

The driver was ejected from the vehicle and had to be air-lifted. He was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Other passengers in the vehicle suffered minor injuries and were transported via ambulance for treatment.

Torralba tells KGUN9 that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the accident.

Deputies have reopened one lane of traffic at milepost 20. Sheriff's Auxiliary Volunteers are helping direct that traffic.

Traffic is still heavily backed up on Mt. Lemmon. Use caution before traveling to Mt. Lemmon throughout Sunday afternoon.
