Game and Fish doing aerial big game surveys
Web Producer: Mekita Rivas
TUCSON (AP) - The Arizona Game and Fish Department is continuing its annual aerial survey of big game animals across southeastern Arizona next month.
The department plans to use helicopters to do the surveys but a fixed-wing aircraft may be used if needed.
Surveys are set for the areas around Willcox, Safford and Thatcher from Jan. 3 -5, near Sierra Vista, Benson, Tombstone and Sonoita-Patagonia on Jan. 6-8, and near Douglas and McNeal from Jan. 17-18.
Game and Fish routinely uses aircraft to survey big game populations in hunting areas across Arizona. Surveys were also done this month.
The results are used to set annual hunting permit numbers and monitor the fitness of herds
