THREE POINTS, Ariz (KGUN9-TV) - When gun toting thugs invaded a home in Three Points, they found the woman in the house had a gun of her own.

She drove off the home invaders.  They're on the loose. The woman's alive, but in critical condition.

Three Points is a rural area where people watch out for themselves. That's what a 61 year old woman did when men with guns showed up at her house.

A wall full of bullet holes says a lot about what happened at the home on Desert Well Drive.  We counted at least 15 shots through the wall.

When men with guns tried to pull off a home invasion, the woman at the house grabbed a gun of her own and the firefight was on.

A neighbor, we'll call her "Granny" says, "If that lady had not had a gun to defend herself, she would be dead. I keep a loaded one right next to the bed..always."

Papa and Granny asked us not to show their faces or use their real names.

They saw men drive in. They heard the shots.

"Granny" says, "It was not a .22.  It was not a .22.  It was a much bigger caliber gun."

"Papa" says, "It was so fast you couldn't count all the shots."

Deputies have not mentioned anything that would lead the gunmen to single out this house. Neighbors say they never saw anything unusual here until the shooting broke out.

Dale Hasman lives right across the street from the house. KGUN 9 reporter Craig Smith asked him: "What do you think of this just happening right across the street like this?"

Hasman: "It's kind of surreal because you don't really expect something like that here. It's quiet and we really didn't hear much of anything."

Deputies say someone saw a small, gold colored car leaving the area. If you've seen it or know anything else that might help, call 911 or 88-Crime.
