ICE detainee from Guatemala dies in Ariz. hospital

PHOENIX (AP) - Federal authorities say a Guatemalan man in the custody of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has died at a Phoenix hospital after undergoing treatment for diabetes complications.
ICE officials say 34-year-old Manuel Cota-Domingo was a detainee at the Eloy Detention Center since Dec. 12.
He was rushed to a hospital in Florence on Dec. 20 after complaining of chest pains and labored breathing.
Doctors determined Cota-Domingo was suffering from diabetic ketoacidosis, an emergency condition caused by untreated hyperglycemia.
He was airlifted to a Phoenix hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit.
ICE officials say Cota-Domingo was arrested Dec. 8 by the U.S. Border Patrol near Sasabe in southern Arizona.
