"I won't go near the mall, the mall is too scary," said Elizabeth Reeves, a last minute shopper.
Reeves and her daughter say they always shop last minute.
They're part of the 17 million people, Consumer Reports expects will shop on Christmas Eve.
"Usually pretty empty and people are really nice on the 24th --good day to shop because not so many people are doing it," she said.
She says she does her best to avoid the malls.
Jake Alpert, another last minute shopper says he feels the same way.
"Absolutely local first for sure," he said.
And it's paying off for the business, Patrick Katchur, the owner tells us its been their busiest weekend and have been seeing a steady stream of customers on Christmas Eve.
"What we make know will carry us through the test of the year, so it's extremely important to have the business, always gauging with our budget on what to make and make sure you sell it," she said.
