GILBERT, Ariz. (AP) - A man is in custody in connection with the fatal shooting of a motorist in Gilbert.
Police say 46-year-old Ysidro Cota was taken into custody Sunday night. He's being held on suspicion of second-degree murder, aggravated assault and being a prohibited possessor of a firearm.
Gilbert police say 48-year-old Michael Kaftan of Mesa was shot while parked in a downtown cul-de-sac and pronounced dead at the scene.
They say a 29-year-old female passenger in his car was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities say Cota and Kaftan knew each other, but the motive behind the shooting remains unclear.
Police say Kaftan was sitting in his car and talking to Cota, who was parked alongside and on his motorcycle. At some point, authorities say Cota fired into Kaftan's vehicle.
