CPS to restore most services that were cut

PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona's child welfare agency plans to restore most services to children and parents that it says were cut due to a misunderstanding.
The Arizona Republic reports that budget-tightening policies over the past couple of months threatened to keep children in foster care longer, make it harder to reunite families and delayed or reduced supervised visitation, parenting training, transportation and other services.
State officials have reversed the policies and say most services will resume as soon as the changes are explained to child-welfare managers and new referrals are sent to providers.
The Department of Economic Security had previously denied reports from service providers and its internal memos obtained by the newspaper that blamed program reductions on a multimillion-dollar budget shortfall within Child Protective Services.
