TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Deputies discovered a man with stab wounds while conducting a sobriety checkpoint in early December.
Deputy Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff's Department tells KGUN9 that on December 8, a white pickup truck came through the DUI checkpoint at Palo Verde Road and Aviation Parkway at about 10:30 p.m.
Deputies immediately noticed a large amount of blood on the driver's side door.
Rebecca Gomez was driving, along with a 57-year-old man and two teenage girls.
The man was covering his head and ear with his hand and blood could be seen dripping from his arm.
Deputies learned that the man was stabbed during a fight. Deputies removed him from the truck and saw several other stab wounds.
Rural/Metro Fire Department responded to the scene and took the man to the University of Arizona Medical Center for further treatment. Tucson Police are continuing the investigation, as the fight took place within city limits.
The woman driving the car, Gomez, was arrested after deputies tried talking to her and smelled alcohol coming from her breath.
They also found she had a previous DUI conviction. The two teenagers in the car were her daughters.
Gomez was arrested on one count of aggravated DUI for driving under the influence and two counts of child abuse.
She was booked into the Pima County Adult Detention Center.
