Forest delays restrictions on firewood gathering

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Restrictions on firewood gathering in areas of the Prescott National Forest will be delayed until the new year.
Forest spokeswoman Debbie Maneely says unseasonably warm temperatures and dry weather mean they're not necessary at this point.
The seasonal restrictions are meant to protect roads and the land from being damaged when the forest receives significant rain or snowfall.
Areas around Mingus Mountain and Chino Valley typically close to firewood cutting from Dec. 15 to March 15. The restrictions have been delayed until Jan. 1, but forest officials say they could be in place earlier if needed.
