More than 40 firefighters needed to combat large restaurant fire

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Firefighters called in 17 units to help fight a restaurant fire that kept escalating despite efforts to temper the smoke and flames.
Multiple calls were made to 9-1-1 to report that smoke was coming from Oishi Sushi restaurant, located at 7002 East Golf Links Road, just before 3:00 a.m. Sunday, according to Jeff Langejans with the Tucson Fire Department.
A security guard made one of those calls to 9-1-1 and reported that he could hear an audible alarm sounding in the restaurant.
Once on scene, firefighters discovered heavy smoke along with fire in the attic, Langejans said.
Crews found the restaurant to be empty, but the fire was escalating. Firefighters cut a hole in the roof to release smoke, heat and gasses that were building up inside the restaurant, but conditions continued to worsen, according to Langejans.
It took over 40 firefighters about an hour to bring the fire under control, but no injuries were reported.
Langejans tells KGUN9 that the business was a total loss estimated at $500,000. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
