PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer didn't participate in Monday's general election canvass, and her office won't say where she is.
Brewer spokesman Matthew did not immediately calls from The Associated Press asking about Brewer's absence.
Benson said in a brief email to the AP that Brewer is out of the state on official business and unavailable to participate in the canvass Monday morning.
Benson's email adds that is all he can disclose at this time.
Under the Arizona Constitution, Secretary of State Ken Bennett is acting governor because Brewer is out of the state.
Benson says his office received the customary notification of Brewer's absence late Friday.
He says his office was notified after it sent a media advisory listing Brewer among officials participating in Monday's election canvass.
