PHOENIX (AP) - Environmental regulators will hold a public hearing Wednesday night on a proposed a copper mine in Florence.

The Arizona Republic reports that the hearing on the project being pursued by Curis Resources Inc. will be held at Florence High School.

The Canadian company wants to open a mine that would inject sulfuric acid hundreds of feet underground.

Regulators in September issued a temporary permit for the proposed mine.

The project on state trust land is opposed by the Florence Town Council and surrounding real-estate developers.

Supporters say the project would bring jobs to the town.
