Dogs sniff for drugs at Tolleson high school

PHOENIX (AP) - A Phoenix-area school district's pilot program to have drug-sniffing dogs make random searches is now in its second year and at a different school.
Tolleson Union High School District started the program last year at Sierra Linda High School in Phoenix.
The Arizona Republic reports that the district has six high schools but can afford to run the program at only one school at a time. This year, the searches are being done at Tolleson Union High School.
District Superintendent Lexi Cunninghman says students are told that searches will occur and the hope is that they won't bring drugs to school.
The district hired a private company to conduct random searches.
Keith Coddington is Houston-based Interquest's Arizona franchisee. He says Tolleson Union is his first public-school client.
