ORO VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - A large search operation is underway for a missing 51-year-old woman from Oro Valley who was last seen Wednesday morning.
Police Lt. Kara Riley says the family of Janet Rennspies reported her missing on Thanksgiving and police asked agencies in Pima and Pinal counties to look for her.
Her family found her car in the parking lot of the Mount Lemmon observatory on Friday and search and rescue teams began scouring the area for signs of Rennspies. She isn't an avid hiker but was known to enjoy outdoor activities.
Volunteers from the Search and Rescue Association, SARA, along with Customs and Border Protection helicopters picked up the search once again Sunday morning.
Search crews tell 9OYS, they're looking for anything out of the ordinary.
"You're looking for ground that has been disturbed;you're looking for any objects that may have been dropped or misplaced by somebody or something," Deputy Sheriff David Conto of the Pima County Sheriff's Department said.
She's described as a white female, about 5 feet, 5 inches-tall, 125 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Anyone who's seen her should call Oro Valley police at (520) 229-4900.
Deputy Shawn Degan is heading the search and rescue for the PCSD. He says there is no indication of foul play.
"We never stop searching for anybody. We would suspend until we get more information or another clue comes up," Deputy Degan said.
