TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Emergency crews responded to a multiple-vehicle accident near Alvernon Way and 22nd Street Saturday morning.

Capt. Barrett Baker with the Tucson Fire Department says the accident, which happened at approximately 11:00 a.m. Saturday, involved five vehicles and resulted in multiple injuries.

According to Sgt. Chris Widmer with the Tucson Police Department, a '92 Dodge pickup truck was driving southbound on Alvernon Way when it ran a red light at 22nd Street and struck four vehicles and a crosswalk signal pole.

Two adult men were inside the pickup truck, but police are still trying to determine who was driving at the time of the accident. Police believe drugs and/or alcohol may have been a factor in causing the accident. Both men were transported to a local hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries, according to Widmer.

Baker tells KGUN9 that three other people had to be transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

The eastbound and westbound lanes at the intersection of Alvernon Way and 22nd Street remained closed for three hours after the crash. Currently, all lanes are open, according to Widmer.
