Planned Green Valley hospital moving ahead
Web Producer: Taylor Higgins
GREEN VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) - A proposed hospital in retirement community of Green Valley has crossed the first of several hurdles in the planning process after local leaders approved zoning changes at the 50-acre site.
The Green Valley News reports this week's approval by the area's planning committee is one of several approvals needed before the project can proceed. Pima County's supervisors must ultimately sign off on the location.
Developers say the Green Valley Medical Center will fill 22 acres of a 50-acre parcel alongside Interstate 19 in Green Valley. In addition to the 32-bed hospital, three medical office buildings and two other related structures are planned.
The site will allow Green Valley residents to get local treatment and will include a heliport for transfer of critically injured patients to Tucson-area hospitals.
