Airport security reminders for Thanksgiving travel

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - AAA estimates more than 43 million Americans will travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Certain holiday foods are allowed on board, but depending on what you've been asked to prepare for the big meal, you might have to wait until you reach your destination.
TSA will allow you to carry on foods such as stuffing, pumpkin pie and corn bread.
"Passengers need to know they can bring their pies through security checkpoints," TSA spokesman Nico Melendez told 9 On Your Side. "Might get extra scrutiny, but we won't take it from you."
Other traditional holiday favorites such cranberry sauce, turkey gravy, canned vegetables and apple cider are not allowed through security.
"Things like gravy and cranberry sauces that are classified as liquids won't be allowed through security checkpoints," Melendez said.
You can always take the risk of stashing gravy or cider in your checked bags, but you may end up with some stains on your clothes before you get to the holiday dinner table.
Since last Thanksgiving, TSA has implemented other changes to speed up the security screening process.
"Adults 75 and older will no longer have to remove their shoes or their outer light jackets they might be wearing through the security check points," Melendez told 9 On Your Side. "And children no longer have to remove their shoes, so the process should be a little easier for parents getting their young ones through the security checkpoints."
As always during a busy travel time, Melendez advises passengers to arrive at the airport as early as possible. He adds you should check with the airline to make sure your flight is on time.
