FLORENCE, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Two men were arrested in Casa Grande after confessing to a burglary where they had smoked meth beforehand.
Tim Gaffney with the Pinal County Sheriff's Office tells KGUN9 that a residence in the 8700 block of W. Nugget Rd. in Casa Grande, Ariz. was burglarized on November 14.
While talking with the victims, deputies learned that while the homeowners were out of town, somebody broke into a family safe and took more than $5,000 worth of jewelry, guns and money.
The homeowners told deputies that their son's friend had access to the home and the next day, deputies located the friend, Allan Wells, 20, walking on the street.
The asked Wells about the burglary and he initially denied, but then later confessed saying, "Take me to jail, I did it."
He told deputies that he and his friend Justin McWhirter broke the lock on the bedroom door and hid the stolen items in the desert, including one handgun that they buries in the sand.
Wells told deputies that the pair had smoked meth before the burglary so they weren't thinking about what they were doing at the time.
They were both booked into the Pinal County Adult Detention Center on one count of Burglary in the First Degree and one count of Theft.
