Eric Marcotte wins third straight El Tour De Tucson

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) Eric Marcotte won today's 30th El Tour de Tucson 111-mile cycling race, holding off a former race champion by less than a second.
It is Marcotte's third straight victory in the race. Marcotte, a 32-year-old Scottsdale chiropractor, edged Rafael Escarcega, who won the 2009 event. They finished in 4 hours 13 minutes and 28.29 seconds and 4:13:28.89, respectively.
Linnea Herbertson, a University of Arizona graduate, was the first female finisher in the 111 mile event, with a time of 4:39:03.
The final sprint to the finish along Sixth Avenue downtown involved a crash when former cycling Olympian John Howard collided with a police motorcycle. Howard is not believed to have any broken bones, but did seek treatment at a hospital, according to an El Tour race official.
The El Tour de Tucson is the largest perimeter cycling event in America. The five races include 111, 85, 60, 42 miles and a kids fun ride.
