PHOENIX (AP) - Volunteers who worked for Attorney General Tom Horne's campaign considered tracking state workers who contributed to his opponent in the 2010 election.
New records released by the Maricopa County Attorney's Office show the campaign aides discussed creating a spreadsheet of workers who gave to Democrat Felicia Rotellini's campaign shortly after he was elected. The Arizona Republic obtained the documents on Wednesday.
The volunteers later became employees in Horne's office. They include current Assistant Attorney General Charles "Chuck" Johnson and Assistant Attorney General Carmen Chenal. FBI records released earlier by the county show Chenal was suspected of having an affair with Horne.
Horne says in a statement he never had a list of employees' political affiliations and no employees faced retaliation for contributing to Rotellini.
