Avoid packing on the pounds during the holidays

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - If you're cooking, nutrition and wellness consultant Gabrielle Hungate says consider substitutions.
"Just a little cooking tip: instead of using butter, use vegetable stock. There's much less fat and they're packed full of flavor. Instead of using milk, use an unsweetened almond milk.
Another important tip, Hungate's says that it's fine to enjoy those holiday treats -- but the trick is to stick to a limit.
"If you're going to have cookies, just have two cookies. Then the next day, try to give yourself one day that you're not eating anything like that. So maybe a few times a week allow yourself those treats that way there's no guilt and you'll be able to work it off and your body is not getting overwhelmed with all that sugar."
Hungate says watch out for favorite high fat foods -- like egg nog.
That's one you'll want to limit. maybe one or two cups a week because there's no nutrition in that and it's pure fat and sugar and as wonderful as it is, maybe just one or two cups a week as opposed to daily."
