Unofficial field of gubernatorial hopefuls forms

PHOENIX (AP) - The unofficial field of candidates for Arizona's 2014 gubernatorial race is already forming, with several prominent figures in each major party figuring in the early jockeying.
The Arizona Republic reports that Mesa Mayor Scott Smith, Secretary of State Ken Bennett, state Treasurer Doug Ducey, Attorney General Tom Horne, state Sen. Steve Pierce and Mesa businessman Wil Cardon have been mentioned as possible contenders for the Republican nomination.
The Democrats' possible gubernatorial contenders include state Rep. Chad Campbell, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, former Arizona Board of Regents Chairman Fred Duval, and attorney Felecia Rotellini.
Most potential candidates insist it's too early to publicly signal they are seriously evaluating a run and say they will decide after the 2013 legislative session ends this coming spring.
