Loughner won't face state charges in Ariz. attack

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Arizona prosecutors won't file state charges against the man who carried out the Tucson shooting rampage that left six people dead and wounded U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
The decision by the Pima County Attorney's Office not to file charges against Jared Lee Loughner means the death penalty has been taken off the table for the 24-year-old.
Loughner was sentenced to life in prison on Thursday after pleading guilty to federal charges under an agreement that guarantees he will spend the rest of his life in prison.
County Attorney Barbara LaWall says she reached out to family members, victims and survivors and decided against filing charges and seeking the death penalty.
