PHOENIX (AP) - An explosion has rocked a north Phoenix gas station and sent a hot air balloon pilot to the hospital.

KTVK-TV reports that firefighters say the blaze began Wednesday after a man was using a 2,000-gallon propane tank to fill several smaller tanks. Officials say moments later smaller tanks started exploding.

Fire crews haven't decided exactly what set the tanks ablaze but said it's possible that excess propane bled off from the filling hose and caught a spark from a wire or even static electricity.

Emergency crews took a 40-year-old man, whose name has not been released, to the hospital with serious burns. He was later released.

No other injuries were reported.
