TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - The Avra Valley Fire District helped save a cow that became stuck in a cattle guard Wednesday.
Patrick Calhoun with the Avra Valley Fire District tells KGUN9 that they were asked by the Pima County Sheriff's Department to help them rescue the cow who was stuck near the Silverbell mine on the back side of the Silverbell mountain range.
The cow's legs were stuck in between the grates of a cattle guard.
Deputies had already removed three of the four legs but firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to free the fourth leg.
The cow was able to then get himself out of the cattle guard.
The animal had some cuts to its legs, which were also swollen.
Calhoun says the cow is doing OK and was picked up by a rancher.
