Poll workers preparing for a big turnout

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Four years after the last big election, and poll workers say they are ready - but are you?
Early voting is becoming increasingly popular, but there are some that still like to file into the booth to cast their vote.
9OYS sat down with the Pima County Elections Director, Brad Nelson. He says with a recent increase in early voting, the county is dealing with a new problem
"One of the things I want to stress is that if someone still has their early ballot in their possession, don't drop it in the mail today and don't drop it in the mail tomorrow because postmarks don't count," said Nelson. "You can drop your early ballot off at any polling place on election day as long as its within pima county."
The night before the election, both Republican and Democtatic parties agree on one thing - high turnout.
"I think we are going to have equal or greater turnout than we did in 2008," said Pima County Democratic Chair Jeff Rogers. "Turnout trends have been up in years' past so I think we will see a high turnout both statewide and across the nation."
Carolyn Cox represents the Republican side of the aisle, and says much of the high turnout will be offset by mail in ballots.
"I don't know if there will be lines or not, so many people have voted early, but it may not be too bad at the polling places," said Cox. "But I think everybody is just waiting to do this voting."
Election officials will be watching the process closely at each polling place. Nelson says he will have county workers near voting locations to tackle any issues that arise.
"You cannot disrupt the voting process, no one should feel intimidated or find anything offensive within the polling places as well. Individuals can call the county elections department with any questions they may have about the behavior that's going on at a particular polling place. We have troubleshooters that are just minutes away from all of the polls that may be able to go there and address whatever situation there may be," said Nelson.
Both Republican and Democrats will have representatives at some of the polling locations to watch for any foul play.
