Hit-and-run driver sentenced to 180 days in Pima County Jail

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - On Sept. 5, 2010, Arizona Department of Public Safety Officers investigated a hit-and-run collision that occurred on I-19 at Irvington Road. The accident resulted in the death of 13-year-old Anthony Gillete.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. With the assistance of an 88-Crime tip, officers were able to locate the vehicle and driver. Maria Elena Gomez, 28, of Tucson was the driver.

Gomez was arrested for leaving the scene of a fatal collision.

In a news release, the Arizona Department of Public Safety said that she pled guilty in September of this year and was sentenced on Monday to 180 days in the Pima County Jail, with an additional 5 years of probation.
