TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A fire started in an equipment room at the University of Arizona's McKale Center late Saturday night.
Tucson firefighters responded to a smoke alarm coming from the McKale Center at around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night, according to Capt. Barrett Baker with the Tucson Fire Department.
Once on scene, crews noticed smoke billowing from the roof of the McKale Center.
Firefighters quickly charged the sprinkler and standpipe systems while other crews entered the building to determine the origin of the fire, according to Baker.
Baker tells KGUN9 that firefighters could see flames and heavy smoke coming from the equipment room.
Multiple units were dispatched to the fire, consisting of 48 firefighters. Crews worked quickly to extinguish the fire and make sure the flames didn't spread to the roof.
No firefighters were injured during the operation and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
