Arizona telemarketers banned from calling Iowans

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Two Arizona telemarketers have been ordered by judges in separate cases to stop calling Iowa residents.
In the first, a Polk County District Court issued an order Friday to permanently restrain Action Point LLC and its owner, Robert Foster, from soliciting Iowa residents. Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller sought the action after he said the for-profit Phoenix company tried to boost sales of high-priced products by falsely claiming that its telemarketers were disabled veterans.
On Oct. 26, a different Polk County judge banned America Workshops LLC and its owner, George Thomas, from soliciting Iowa residents. Miller said the Phoenix company uses a charity-themed sales pitch to sell light bulbs, trash bags, and other household and personal items at greatly elevated prices.
The Arizona companies did not admit liability.
