TUCSON(KGUN9-TV) - The Pima County Sheriff's Department responded to a call at approximately 2 a.m. on Nov 2 for a man calling about his roommate's self destructive behavior.
Deputies arrived in the 3000 block of North Lloyd Bush Drive and found the 37-year-old under the influence of methamphetamine and armed with edged weapons, according to PCSD. The man barricaded himself in the bathroom when deputies followed him inside the residence.
Deputies were able to hear screaming and establish visual contact through a window and saw the man continue self destructive behavior. Deputies broke down the bathroom door and attempted to restrain him.
Upon handcuffing, the man fell unconscious. Medical personnel on scene immediately began live saving efforts. He was transported to the University of Arizona Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
Deputies were evacuated due to the exposure to bio-hazardous conditions during their restraint attempts.
The Sheriff's Homicide Unit responded to the scene for an investigation.
