PHOENIX (AP) - Authorities say one hiker is dead and two others have been rescued after they were attacked by a swarm of bees atop Phoenix's Echo Canyon.

Phoenix Fire Department officials say one hiker fell off the cliff Monday afternoon and suffered fatal injuries.

Television footage showed a rescue helicopter lifting one stranded hiker off the cliff and another being carried on a stretcher to an ambulance.

Some of the rescue workers wore white protective gear to protect themselves from the bees.

The names and ages of the hikers aren't immediately available.
