Sprinklers hold UA dorm fire in check

TUCSON (AP) - A Tucson Fire Department spokesman says an early morning fire at a University of Arizona dormitory was held in check by fire sprinkler systems.
Capt. Jeff Langejans says the fire in a large couch in a TV room was basically out when firefighters arrived at the Pueblo de la Cienega Hall at about 3:30 a.m. Friday.
More than 100 students were evacuating the building when crews arrived. University police told firefighters a fire sprinkler in the TV room was running and the room was filled with smoke.
No one was injured.
Langejans say between three and seven people die in residential fires across the country each day and fire sprinklers could prevent many of those deaths.
