Police identify teen injured after falling from bed of truck

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Stephen Joseph Jones, 16, was airlifted to a hospital Monday after he was thrown from the bed of a pick-up truck.

Deputy Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff's Department tells KGUN9 that several high school students were driving in a truck on Sunrise Drive near Ventana Vista Road.

Jones was in the bed of the truck and stood up, right as the driver accelerated.

The boy was thrown from the bed and landed on the ground.  It was at that time that the 17-year-old driver of the vehicle decided to make the

Crews airlifted the boy to a nearby hospital where he is listed in critical, but stable condition.

Peine says the boy's parents were on scene, and the boy's twin brother was also in the truck with him.

Peine says there are no obvious signs that alcohol was involved in this accident.

No word yet on if the driver will be cited.
