Tucson student selected for STEM competition

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A senior at Sonoran Science Academy was chosen as the only student from Arizona to compete in a science and technology competition this year.
Stanley Palasek Jr. is one of 93 students from all over the country invited by the Siemens Foundation to compete as Regional Finalists in the 2012 Siemens Competition.
He will compete next month in Austin, Texas as a regional finalist. Regional winners will continue on to the national competition in Washington D.C.
He is the first Arizona regional finalist since 2008 and his research is on the origins of life.
He started at the Sonoran Science Academy in 2007 after moving to Tucson from the east coast.
He was selected from 2,255 students to compete.
