NOGALES, Ariz. (AP) - A Mexican woman has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle more than $77,000 worth of heroin into southern Arizona.
U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials said Monday that 28-year-old Beatriz Adriana Torres-Valenzuela was taken into custody at the Dennis DeConcini Port in Nogales.
CBP officers selected Torres-Valenzuela for an additional inspection when she attempted to enter the country through a pedestrian lane.
During the search, a CBP officer reported finding nearly six pounds of heroin wrapped around Torres-Valenzuela's mid-section.
Authorities say Torres-Valenzuela was turned over to the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. They didn't immediately know if she had a lawyer yet for her case.
