TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) -  Deputies responded to Gates Pass to rescue a child after he became trapped while hiking with his grandmother.

Search and Rescue deputies hiked into Gates Pass around 1:00 p.m. Sunday to rescue a 9-year-old boy who became trapped under a boulder in Gates Pass, according to Deputy Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff's Department.

KGUN 9 On Your Side went to the scene and learned that the boy was hiking with his grandmother on Golden Gate Mountain when he grabbed a loose boulder. The boulder then fell on the boy's left calf, pinning him down.

The boy was transported to a local area hospital around 3:00 p.m.
