MESA, Ariz. (AP) - Mesa police say the driver of a truck carrying 18 passengers was killed Friday when the vehicle crashed into a pole following a high-speed chase.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman Amber Cargile says authorities have determined that four people in the truck are in the country without legal permission.
Cargile says the status of the others hasn't been established because they were hospitalized.
Police said none of the hospitalized people's injuries were life-threatening.
Police said the chaset began about 12:30 a.m. after the driver refused a request to pull over.
The truck sped through city streets and onto U.S. 60 before leaving the freeway, missing a turn and crashing.
