US designates 2 Ariz. sites as historic landmarks
Web Producer: Taylor Higgins
PHOENIX (AP) - Two sites in Arizona are among more than two dozen nationwide designated by the U.S. Interior Department as national historic landmarks.
The Arizona sites include the Murray Springs Clovis Site in Cochise County. The department says the site is associated with the prehistoric Clovis culture.
Arizona's other new historic landmark is the Poston Elementary School in La Paz County. It was the site of a relocation center established during World War II for confinement of Japanese-Americans.
The department says the landmark designations don't change property ownership but provide a designation letter, a plaque and technical preservation advice.
