Fire forces evacuation of a dozen people at assisted-living facility

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - A residential care home caught fire, threatening the homes of several people. 
 
Firefighters responded to the 2000 block of south Cathy Avenue at around 12:30 a.m. Tuesday after a resident of the care facility called 9-1-1 to report a house fire, according to Capt. Barrett Baker with the Tucson Fire Department. 
 
The care home housed nine residents and three staff members. The garage of the care facility was being used to house two people, Baker says.
 
Once on scene, crews discovered that the garage was heavily involved in a fire. Firefighters quickly evacuated all of the residents and stifled the flames.
 
Baker tells KGUN9 that the fire was contained to the garage, but crews used a thermal imaging camera to ensure that the flames had not spread into the living area of the home.  
 
Firefighters got the fire under control in about five minutes. There were no injuries and Red Cross was not needed, according to Baker.
 
Baker says all of the residents of the care facility were temporarily displaced by the fire, but they were allowed to re-enter the home after about an hour.
