VAIL, Ariz., (KGUN9-TV) - A young man is dead after a late night rollover accident.
Armando Daniel Hernandez, 18, was partially ejected from an SUV during a single-vehicle rollover accident that occurred in the area of Old Spanish Trail and Pistol Hill Road, according to Deputy Tom Peine with the Pima County Sheriff's Office.
Hernandez became pinned underneath the vehicle once it came to a rest. He suffered fatal injuries, according to Peine.
Deputies from the Rincon District responded to the scene at around 9:00 p.m. Friday and discovered that the SUV had rolled over while traveling northbound on Pistol Hill Road.
Peine tells KGUN9 that after failing to stop at a stop sign, the SUV hit a dirt beam and rolled onto its side.
The driver of the vehicle was 41-year-old Joan Elaine Laidlaw. Hernandez and a 16-year-old boy were the only passengers.
Laidlaw and the 16-year-old passenger were transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
During the initial investigation, deputies found illegal drugs and paraphernalia inside the vehicle. Laidlaw later tested positive for marijuana and other depressants.
Peine says Laidlaw was arrested on charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault.
The accident remains under investigation.
