Pursuit uncovers vehicle used for human smuggling

PINAL COUNTY, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - Two individuals were turned over to the U.S. Border Patrol for deportation on Oct 11. following a pursuit on Interstate-10, according to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office.

A patrol deputy initiated a traffic stop near mile marker 198 for a traffic violation at approximately 5:28 a.m. The truck was seen weaving outside of the lanes.

The truck accelerated to over 100 mph when the deputy turned on his emergency lights. The truck continued westbound on I-10 until it drove through the right away fence near the McCartney Road exit.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office, Casa Grande Police Department, U.S. Border Patrol and PCSO Air Unit responded to assist.

The abandoned truck was found in the desert near Woodruff Road and Cox Road. Two individuals were located. They told deputies that they were a part of a group of twenty people, all of whom had crossed into the U.S. illegally. The other people were not found.
