OAK-CREEK CANYON, Ariz. (AP) - A woman and her adult son have been found dead in Oak-Creek Canyon in what authorities believe was a double suicide.

The Coconino County Sheriff's Office said the bodies of the woman and man were found Tuesday morning propped up against a log between the edge of the road and the right-of-way fence on Highway 89A.

Authorities say the bodies were around a quarter mile from the visitor center at the Oak-Creek Canyon Overlook.

Detectives found what are believed to be two suicide notes, one from each person, next to the bodies. Authorities say a handgun was found in the lap of the dead man.

No names have been released.

It was unclear how long the bodies had been there.
