TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - It started as a case of road rage and ended with one person in the hospital, according to Tucson Police Department spokeswoman Sgt. Maria Hawke.

Hawke told 9 On Your Side two vehicles were driving in the area of 22nd Street and Tucson Boulevard Thursday night. Around 21st and Highland, Hawke said someone in one vehicle shot at the other.

“The passenger of the victim vehicle was transported to a hospital with life threatening injuries,” Hawke wrote in an email to 9 On Your Side, not specifying the cause of those injuries.

Hawke said the shooter and his or her vehicle -- described as a red passenger vehicle -- got away.

Police closed down a portion of 22nd Street for several hours after the shooting.

As of Friday afternoon, Hawke tells KGUN9 the victim is in stable condition.

Meanwhile, TPD is looking at the possibility of more than one shooter. Police are asking for anyone with information, including those who may have seen the two vehicles prior to the shooting, to contact police.
