Tucson teacher is Arizona Teacher of the Year top five finalist

TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Borton Magnet School teacher Becky Cavazos has been named one of the five finalists for Arizona Teacher of the Year.
The fourth grade teacher's name was announced Tuesday by the Arizona Educational Foundation. This week in Phoenix Cavazos was questioned by a panel of judges and gave a speech on the Common Core standards that are being implemented in school districts in Arizona.
According to the foundation, the program recognizes kindergarten through 12th grade public school teachers who are both skilled and dedicated to the profession.
The application process included a DVD submission of her teaching a class, her philosophy of teaching, issues and trends in education, and her thoughts about the teaching profession
The Arizona Teacher of the Year will be announced at a luncheon event in Scottsdale on Nov. 14.
