TUCSON (KGUN9-TV) - Police are looking for witnesses who saw a man leaving the scene of a shooting Monday afternoon.

Sgt. Chris Widmer with TPD tells KGUN9 that a man was shot at the bus stop on the southwest corner of Broadway Boulevard and Alvernon Way about 3:00 p.m. Monday.

The man was taken to a hospital where he later died.

Detectives learned that the man shot and the shooter were the only two people at the bus stop when the shooter fired his gun at the victim.

Police conducted an extensive search of the area looking for the shooter but were unsuccessful.

They know that the shooter ran southeast from the scene and cut off traffic as he ran eastbound across Alvernon Way.

Witnesses told police that a flat-bed work truck heading north on Alvernon Way almost hit the shooter as he crossed in front of the truck.

Detectives would like to speak with the driver of that truck and any other witnesses who may have seen the man running without knowing that a shooting had just happened.

The shooter is described as an African American, between 18 and 25 years old, 6'1'', with a thin build.

He was wearing a blue shirt, which he might have removed as he was running away from the scene.

Anyone with information is asked to call 911 or 88-CRIME.
