Ex-aide charged with stealing Ariz. campaign cash

PHOENIX (AP) - Federal fraud charges accuse a former Arizona House employee of stealing $128,000 from a legislative candidate's campaign account and then returning the money before it was needed in the 2008 election.
The indictment issued Friday alleges that John Rowland Mills used the money for mortgage payments and other personal living expenses and to make investments.
A lawyer said by prosecutors to be representing Mills didn't immediately return a call for comment.
The indictment doesn't identify the candidate involved but former House Speaker Jim Weiers told The Arizona Republic (bit.ly/P0K0vc) that it was his campaign account.
Weiers told the newspaper the charges are silly because he doesn't feel victimized.
Mills worked for majority House Republicans before he resigned last spring. His duties included tracking redistricting.
