5-term Arizona congressman Sam Steiger dies at 83

PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Former Arizona congressman Sam Steiger has died in Prescott.
A Yavapai County official says the 83-year-old Steiger died Wednesday. The cause of death wasn't immediately available Friday.
The former Prescott mayor had been absent from the political scene since suffering a stroke in September 2002.
Steiger served five terms as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives, two terms as an Arizona state senator and one term as mayor of Prescott.
Funeral plans and a list of his survivors weren't immediately available.
