Arpaio far ahead in fundraising in sheriff's race

PHOENIX (AP) - Republican Joe Arpaio remains the leader in fundraising in the race for Maricopa County sheriff.
The Republican incumbent raised $457,000 from Aug. 9 through Sept. 17 and had $3.8 million in his re-election campaign fund at the end of the period.
Democrat Paul Penzone raised $138,000 during that period and finished with $114,000 left over.
Independent Mike Stauffer pulled in more than $1,000 in contributions and had $315 at the end of the period.
