Brewer appeals ruling on 1 part of Arizona law

PHOENIX (AP) - Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer is appealing a ruling that prevents police from enforcing a little-known section of the state's 2010 immigration law.
Brewer's attorneys plan to ask the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to reverse a lower-court's Sept. 5 ruling that barred officers from enforcing a provision that made it illegal to harbor people suspected of being in the country illegally.
The provision was in effect from late July 2010 until Sept. 5.
A week ago, a lower-court judge ruled police could start enforcing the law's most contentious section.
That section required officers, while enforcing other laws, question the immigration status of those suspected of being in the country illegally.
The appeals court on Tuesday rejected a bid by the law's opponents to put that provision on hold.
